Go
Kids Child Care Resource and Referral Agency
is the organization
in San Benito County which provides critical child care
resource and referral services to parents and families of
all income levels in the county.
The organization is funded by the California Department
of Education Child Development Division and functions as
the hub of child care service in San Benito. The R and R
is part of the California Resource and Referral Network,
made up of R and R organizations in each California County.
The organization and staff provides parents, child care
providers and the general public the information they need
about child care services and child care issues in San Benito
County. Services are free and confidential.
Parents can contact Go Kids and receive child care referrals
to all licensed programs (infant, preschool and school age)
as well as consultation and written materials about what
to look for in quality services. Referrals are free and
confidential and are available for all program types including:
- Family Day Care Homes,
- Child Care Centers (full
day and part day)
- Child Development Centers
- Migrant Child Care
- Head
Start
- State Pre schools
Parents can call and
obtain information about subsidized child care services
available through CaLWORKs or State child care subsidy for
low income families.
Community members can
obtain information, publications and data through GoKids
about child care availability and services in the San Benito
region. GoKids maintains a database of licensed child care
options in San Benito.
New and existing child care
providers can obtain assistance from GoKids R and R
staff with center start up, family day care home start up,
training in various areas of child development including:
Providers may also use the
Go Kids toy lending library, curriculum materials, educational
videos and other materials free of charge.
In addition to General Public
Child Care Resource and Referral Services provided that
are free to the public, the R and R also administers several
programs which provide low income families support in
obtaining and paying for child care Services.

The resource and referral agency,
administration and staff is an informed source and information

improving and expanding child care options in the community

Child
Care and Development Services for Low Income Families
In addition to the
various referral and child care payment programs the Child
Care Resource and Referral Agency provides for the General
public free of charge, there are also a variety of Child
Care and Development Programs (Centers and Head Start facilities)
which provide comprehensive services full day and part time
at center locations in San Benito.
Head
Start
Head Start serves children 3.5-5
years school year. Part day and full day programs available
at four locations in Hollister.
Eligibility:
Family income must meet federal poverty guidelines.
Head Start is available at no cost to income eligible families
with children aged 18 months to 5 years of age, based on
Federal Income Guidelines.
Those eligible include :
- Families with children from
18 months through 5 years.
- Children with special needs
with an Individual Education Plan (IEP), Individual Family
Services Plan (IFSP),
- Foster children, with high
risk factors, or with a parent with a disability and/or
possessing disabling conditions.
- Families of immigrants or
refugees.
- Families participating in
CalWORKs, working fulltime, attending school or job training.

Child Care Centers and Family Day Care Homes
Family Day Care
Over 100 child care
providers serving children age 0-13 are licensed by the
California Community Care Licensing Department to provide
child care in their homes. These businesses operate on an
independent basis, as private centers and preschools do.
The types of programming (curriculum offered) vary by provider,
their experience, education and background. Parents needing
referrals to Family Day Care providers in San Benito should
call the R and R for referrals.

San Benito Family Day Care Association
The San Benito Family
Day Care Association functions as:
- a support group for licensed
family day care providers in San Benito County and also
as
- a referral source to Family
Day Care providers in the Association network.
- a training , education and
information resource for its membership.
The association aims to provide
support to area providers and also to strengthen professional
development of licensed Family Day Care providers. Membership
is open to all licensed child care providers in San Benito
County. The Association has two meetings per month one for
English speakers and one for Spanish speaking providers
